- ACCORD assisted a community hospital throughout a process designed to explore affiliation opportunties with larger health systems.
- ACCORD assisted several community hospitals in their efforts to identify opportunities for collaboration in their shared market and to determine the most effective way to structure the relationship.
- Ed Kazemek and Pam Knecht authored several new articles that appeared in The Governance Institute's BoardRoom Press and Trustee Magazine including one on the board's role in mergers/acquisitions and public hospital governance (see Publications).
- ACCORD is currently assisting a number of hospitals and health systems with the design and facilitation of Leadership Retreats as a part of their strategic planning processes. In these retreats, 25 to 100 key stakeholders meet over a day or two to identify critical strategic issues and to draft a longer-term vision. Board members, physician leaders, administration, and other community / business leaders engage in small and large group discussions designed to result in consensus about strategic direction.
- ACCORD completed a physician-hospital integration engagement in which the board, administration, and physicians worked together to develop a concrete vision for a medical community with newly-employed and independent physicians.
- ACCORD recently completed a comprehensive governance restructuring of one of the country's premier children's health care systems.
- Pam Knecht will be presenting at two of The Governance Institute's Leadership Conferences in 2010. Pam will be speaking at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida on February 21, on the topic of Board Fundamentals and on February 22, on the topic of Aligning Physicians and Hospitals: The Board's Role. At the same conference, she will co-present with Sean Murphy, General Counsel for Solaris Health System, on Board Leadership: The Succession Planning Imperative. Pam will also speak at The Governance Institute's Leadership Conference at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina. On May 16 she will present Board Fundamentals and on May 17 she will speak on Earning the Public's Trust: Zero Defects Governance.
- In addition, Pam Knecht will be conducting an educational program for The Wyoming Hospital Association on the relationship between the Board Chair and the Chief Executive Officer. This session will also include an overview of advanced governance practices.
- Ed Kazemek, Pam Knecht and Barry Bader of Bader & Associates co-authored a new white paper published by The Governance Institute entitled, "Aligning Hospitals and Physicians: Formulating Strategy in a Changing Environment." A copy is available in the Publications section.
