RECENT CLIENT ENGAGEMENTS

ACCORD assisted a community hospital throughout a process designed to explore affiliation opportunities with larger health systems.
ACCORD helped several community hospitals in their efforts to identify opportunities for collaboration in their shared market and to determine the most effective way to structure the relationship.
ACCORD recently completed a comprehensive governance restructuring of one of the country's premier children's health care systems.
ACCORD is currently assisting a number of hospitals and health systems with the design and facilitation of Leadership Retreats as a part of their strategic planning processes. In these retreats, 25 to 100 key stakeholders meet over a day or two to identify critical strategic issues and to draft a longer-term vision. Board members, physician leaders, administration, and other community / business leaders engage in small and large group discussions designed to result in consensus about strategic direction.
ACCORD completed a physician-hospital integration engagement in which the board, administration, and physicians worked together to develop a concrete vision for a medical community with newly-employed and independent physicians.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Pam Knecht will be presenting at two of The Governance Institute's Leadership Conferences in 2011. Pam will be speaking at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California on March 13 and 14, on topics of "Using Zero Defects Governance to Earn the Public's Trust" and "Tackling Tough Strategic Questions: The New Board-Management Partnership".
On May 1, Pam will co-present with Dan Grauman, President and CEO for DGA Partners, at The Governance Institute's Leadership Conference at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Their topic will be "Go It Alone or Merge into a Large System: An Unavoidable Decision.
Karma Bass will be presenting at the Premier Governance Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on February 2 on "Orientation to Hospital Governance for New Trustees" and in North Carolina, on September 30 - October 1, 2011 on Governance Essentials.
She will also be presenting at the ACHE annual Congress in Chicago on March 21 ans 22 on "Zen and the Art of Board Maintenance".
Pam Knecht will be conducting an educational program for the Heartland Health Alliance in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 25, 2011. This day-long session is titled "Maximizing Governance Effectiveness".

PUBLICATIONS

Ed Kazemek, Pam Knecht and Barry Bader of Bader & Associates co-authored a new white paper published by The Governance Institute entitled, "Aligning Hospitals and Physicians: Formulating Strategy in a Changing Environment." A copy is available in the Publications section.
Ed Kazemek and Pam Knecht authored several new articles that appeared in The Governance Institute's BoardRoom Press and Trustee Magazine including one on the board's role in mergers/acquisitions and public hospital governance (see Publications).
ACCORD has developed short case studies of recent engagements. The case studies can be found under the Health Industry Services section.
